ABOUT Previously just a scholar in Baldur's Gate with a voracious need to learn about anything he could get his hands on - including, more recently, studies into the Far Realms, which may or may not have something to do with his present situation - Jonah has been thrown into the deep end of adventuring. Kind of a coward, and certainly not hero material, Jonah's main goal started out very simple: get this tadpole out of his head, and keep himself surrounded by people much more suited to bloody battles by promising to help them, too.

Most of his choices, in the beginning, were made with this in mind, but as things have progressed, he's shifted his course. Jonah, for better or worse, is taking power where he can get it, and is looking for any opportunity to ensure his own power over himself and his fate will never be torn from him again.

It is, unfortunately, the same sort of arrogance he's known for in his original universe, but at least he's consistent.
PERSONALITY Jonah is, for the most part, agreeable and friendly, and makes for good company, but he loves being right and can become snappish and cruel in stressful situations. He's simultaneously impulsive and a coward. There's nothing he hates more than being in an uncontrolled situation. His curiosity and nosiness sometimes put people off or get him into trouble. He knows a lot about a lot of things, but won't always share his information to help others if it benefits him to keep it to himself. Part of him wants to think of himself as a Good Person who does the Right Things, but he knows he's selfish, and the worse things get, the more he lets go of that vision; he'd rather survive than be good.
RELATIONSHIPS SHADOWHEART: On good terms, they had some chemistry early on but the spark of attraction never really showed up. Still, they've talked extensively about Shar and Oghma, and Jonah knows, now, that she feels a certain gratitude towards him for where she's ended up, even though he feels like he hardly did anything but hold a mirror up for her to see her own problems. Jonah let her choose what she wanted to do with Dame Aylin; she ended up letting her go free and learning more about her past.
LAE'ZEL: Prickly but on decent terms. Expressed her attraction to Jonah but he's both gay and a coward. They have NOTHING in common and it's very funny to watch her scowl at his dishonourable little schemes. He managed to convince her that maybe the tadpoles are useful, which surprised even him. Once they found out about Moonrise Towers he convinced her they were beyond needing the crèche. He's still on edge from the time she tried to cut his throat tbh.
WYLL: Jonah thinks Wyll is sweet and charming and also - affectionately - a fool. They had a thing briefly until Wyll started talking about fairytale romance and how wonderful Jonah is, at which point Jonah broke it off; he can't handle - doesn't want - that sort of attention. Jonah managed to convince Mizora to end Wyll's contract in six months in exchange for her freedom from the Mindflayer pod. He does intend to try and save Wyll's dad, but that may change if Jonah's priorities change.
ASTARION: They are two shitty little peas in a bastard pod. Astarion wasn't a fan of Jonah's attempts to Do the Right Things at first - he even turned down Jonah's flirting - but as Jonah's resolve in that department has slipped, they've become closer. Jonah let Astarion read most of the Necromancy of Thay, and they both encouraged each other to consider wrenching power from the Absolute before Moonrise. Now Jonah might help Astarion steal the Ascension ritual from Cazador.
KARLACH: Jonah thinks he's immune to her friendship beam, but he's not. She's warmth, in the middle of all this horror. She's smart. He does like her, he appreciates that taking out Gortash will also be a win for her for her own reason, but if he has to go out of his way to stop her engine from overheating in order to get to that point, he's not sure he'll be willing to stray off his path. She did say she was fine with dying free, though, right?
GALE: They had a little bit of will-they-won't-they until things got bleak around Moonrise. Talking to Gale is like being home in Baldur's Gate, debating with other scholars over semantics. He's someone Jonah would have written letters to, saved letters from - before all this they had written once or twice as academics - and it's a tragedy that their first meeting had to be in the middle of all this. Their minds are on the same track quite often they're both Sage background but where they diverge, usually regarding their situation, they really diverge.
HALSIN: Oh, Halsin. Jonah saved him in order to get his help, and saved Thaniel in order to continue getting his help, and now he thinks this elf who is a million miles taller than him might be in love with him for it. Jonah is just grateful to have him around.
JAHEIRA: She's only just joined, so he hasn't gotten to know her yet, but she's been excellent backup and he's fond of her — and she seems fond of his ribbing. He's looking forward to digging into the truth of the stories he's heard.
